A two-member pioneer team comprising Prof. K. A. Abbas and Mr. Shahid Mahmood Butt conceived the idea of bringing former JICA training programme participants to a platform. JICA Alumni Association of Pakistan was established in 1989 at Islamabad, with the aim to foster closer relations and more fruitful mutual assistance between JICA former participants.

Objectives

To contribute to the strengthening and development of friendly ties and cooperation between Pakistan and Japan;

To develop contacts with JICA and various training institutions in Japan with a view to exchange information of mutual benefit;

To develop friendship among the members of the Association;

To promote transfer of technical know how among the members;

To do all other acts and things as are incidental and conducive to the achievement of above objectives.

A trained Human Resource is a fuel for the economic engine of any economy, whether developed or in the process to become so. Pakistan is one of the developing countries; therefore, a competent workforce is indispensable. Realizing this important factor, JICA embarked upon training of the government officials, to capacitate them for efficient and effective utilization of the resources and better service delivery to the public at large. These training courses are customized to meet the need of the officials in government service, so they may employ the learned skills and knowledge to their work, once they are back to office.

We have come some way. Few of us might even say that we have come a long way. it was a small group of JICA alumni association gathered in a small room of the Children's Hospital, Islamabad and embarked on an uncharted journey. We laid foundation of the JICA Alumni Association of Pakistan. We were a bunch of people from different walks of life; mostly professionals like physicians, nurses, engineers, managers, academics, media persons, etc.
